Board Of Directors

As we move into June, summer has finally arrived at the park after an unusually cool and rainy Memorial Day weekend. Temperatures have warmed into the 80s, signaling the true start of the season at the river.

One of the most significant events this month is our Annual Meeting, scheduled for Saturday, June 14th. To prepare, the member item sign-up sheet is available at the office until 5 PM on Saturday, June 7th, allowing time to finalize the meeting agenda. Responding to member requests, the completed agenda will be posted on the Official Facebook page by Thursday, June 12th, so members can review discussion topics ahead of time.

We look forward to a productive meeting and thank all members for their ongoing participation and engagement.

Annual Meeting Voting & Attendance

The Election Committee has emailed members important details about proxy voting, alongside ballots for director elections. Members unable to attend the meeting are strongly encouraged to submit a proxy to ensure their vote is counted.

The meeting will take place outdoors, with the Lower Ranger Station reserved as a backup location in case of bad weather.

This Annual Meeting is the one key opportunity each year for members to present items, hear critical updates, and vote on park matters. Your attendance—or submission of a proxy—is essential to having your voice heard.

At the meeting, election results will be announced, and the newly elected directors for the 2025/2026 term will be introduced. We encourage all members to attend and hear the outcomes of their votes.

Board Acknowledgments

We want to extend our sincere thanks to Larry Fellows, who has chosen not to seek re-election after over two years of dedicated Board service. Larry has been an invaluable contributor to many of the improvements we’ve achieved. Please take a moment to thank him if you see him at the meeting or around the park.

Though Larry will be stepping down, we’re confident he will remain an engaged member of our community. Thank you, Larry — you will be truly missed!

Park Operations & Improvements

Our new pump-out software system is close to rollout, with member training and deployment schedules coming later this month. Testing of the new tablets for pump truck operators and the guard house kiosk is underway. Thanks to member Daniel Boyce, who designed and built a custom weatherproof tablet holder and developed the software itself, the park is receiving this system at a greatly reduced cost. We encourage members to thank Daniel for his generous efforts.

Volunteer Opportunities

Several park committees remain understaffed and need member volunteers. From finance to recreation, there are many ways to contribute and support the community. Committee interest forms are available at the Office and outline the responsibilities of each committee. If interested or for more information, please visit the Office or contact a Board member.

General Manager

Welcome to pool season! The pool is now open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Please remember to follow all pool guidelines and take a moment to thank our lifeguards for their hard work in preparing the pool and keeping everyone safe.

This past weekend, one of our security vehicles was involved in a single-vehicle accident while assisting the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office with an active investigation in the park. The accident caused damage to the right front bumper, but thankfully, no one was injured.

As part of our standard protocol, a mandatory drug test was performed by a licensed clinic following the accident. We take all incidents seriously and are using this event to review and improve our policies and procedures.

The vehicle will be repaired properly, and a claim will be filed with our insurance company. Since this is a new vehicle, we want to ensure the repairs meet the highest standards.

Finally, a reminder to all members: this Saturday is the last day to submit agenda items or questions for the Annual Membership Meeting. The deadline is 5 p.m.

Accountant

As we prepare for the Annual Meeting on June 14th, we’re already looking ahead—budget season is just around the corner!

We are currently seeking volunteers to join the Finance Committee. This is a great opportunity to get involved and contribute to the financial planning and health of our community.

If you're interested, please stop by the office to complete a Committee Interest Form. Per our bylaws, Finance Committee members serve a five-year term.

Your participation makes a difference—thank you for considering this important role!

Security

This week, our security and compliance teams remained active in monitoring and addressing violations throughout the park to ensure the safety and integrity of Riverbend.

We issued two Stop Work Orders in response to unauthorized construction activity. In addition, our team filed five incident reports:

  • One medical call, promptly handled by the appropriate responders.

  • One theft report, which was determined to have occurred outside of the park.

  • One case of unauthorized garbage disposal, which was immediately addressed.

  • Two incidents involving damage to RBMC property, specifically involving two security vehicles.

Furthermore, we issued five citations for various violations:

  • Unauthorized garbage disposal

  • No A&E permit

  • Performing work without an A&E permit

  • Unauthorized entry into the park

  • Illegal dumping

Maintenance

We remind all members and visitors that adherence to park rules and regulations is essential to maintaining a safe and respectful community. If you are unsure about A&E permit requirements or proper disposal protocols, please contact the office for guidance.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

This past week has been relatively quiet for the Maintenance Department—aside from the now all-too-familiar event of a tree falling across the road. With fewer emergency situations, the team has been able to refocus on routine upkeep and begin addressing the backlog of work orders. We thank all members for their continued patience as we work to reduce outstanding requests.

Bath House 4 Notice
A water service issue at Bath House 4 remains unresolved and will require a temporary closure of the facility—likely for at least half a day—to complete necessary repairs. Please plan accordingly.

Prioritizing Emergencies
As always, emergency issues take top priority. These include downed trees, damaged power lines, and major utility failures. Following those are critical service interruptions (e.g., no water, power outages, or sewer backups), and then general maintenance and park improvement projects.

Pump-Out System Launch
The new electronic pump-out system is nearly ready for rollout. This system will include real-time tracking, GPS integration, and improved efficiency. A full procedural guide and training information will be shared in next week’s newsletter.

Seasonal Position Open
We are currently hiring for a seasonal groundskeeper. If you or someone you know is interested in a summer position and enjoys working outdoors, please stop by the office for more information.

Thank You!
Special thanks to our pump truck drivers for their hard work during this busy time, and to all members who have helped maintain the compactor and burn pile areas—your cooperation has made a big difference!

Maintenance Requests Reminder
When submitting maintenance requests, please double-check your block and lot numbers and include as much detail as possible. Even small errors—like confusing “40” with “4”—can cause delays. If you won’t be onsite, the more details you provide, the better we can assist you.

Thank you for helping us keep the park running smoothly!
