Pool Lightning Safety: Why We Close Even When the Sky Looks Clear

We understand that it can be confusing when the pool closes while the weather still looks fine. However, safety is our top priority.

We follow guidelines from the United States Lifesaving Association and the National Weather Service, which recommend closing pools when lightning is detected within 10 miles, even if skies are clear. This is because lightning can strike far from the center of a storm — sometimes up to 20 miles away in rare cases.

This policy helps protect our members and staff by ensuring there's enough time to evacuate and seek shelter safely. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
